Wakeboarding
Wakeboarding is a board sport that strongly resembles snowboarding. You have a board that is sized for you, with a sideways stance, and bindings that connect your feet to the board. This is essentially all you need beside a rope, handle, lifejacket and a boat, winch, or personal watercraft. When riding behind a boat, common speeds are around 17-25mph with a rope length of 65' to 85' or longer. The longer rope and faster boat speeds are for more advanced riders. Wakeboarding was initiated as strictly a behind the boat activity, but with the introduction of the personal water craft and now the winch, the possibilities of the sport are endless. The winch is a device that is portable, uses a 6hp-11hp motor, and takes the sport to places such as small creeks, waterfalls, pools, etc. Wakeboarding as a sport and a lifestyle has been growing more and more every year in the state of Alabama. The sport is unique because its one of the few board sports that requires at least one other person to be involved, i.e. someone to drive the boat, pwc or winch. This allows for the development of real friendships through spending time together and helping each other improve their riding while enjoying the outdoors. With the help of Tom at ShredReady Helmets, ALWake.com, and Wakefactory.net we plan to keep the sport growing and document it progression in the state of Alabama and surrounding areas.
